South Portland’s MELMAC Grant and Project Scholarship

Our MELMAC grant supports activities which seek to increase the number of South Portland high school graduates who enroll in post-secondary study. In April it paid for a field trip that took every sophomore to visit three colleges; a private 4-year college, a public university and a 2 year community college. Additional college trips were arranged for individual senior students to meet with admission staff or to take entrance exams. The grant also conducts follow up studies to see how many students persist in college and graduate in a timely manner.
